Benefits of employment                                                                        Back to Job List

As a member of the Aster Group we share its aspirations to be an employer of choice and we already have a reputation as a major player in our local area.

Our aim is to be a flexible and family friendly employer, offering competitive rewards and benefits, together with the best of contemporary conditions and working practices. Here are the main benefits you can expect if you join Mendip Housing:

Hours of work

Although many of our administrative, managerial and professional jobs are offered on a full time 37 hour week basis, we still offer a large number of part-time and job share opportunities at all levels and we are always willing to look at flexible arrangements to suit particular individual circumstances where we can.

Many staff have the opportunity to work on a flexitime basis.

Positions for direct care staff are usually offered on a part-time basis with a shift system. There are also opportunities for waking and sleeping night duties.

Salary

Salaries are always clearly stated on our job adverts and fit within an agreed salary scale. The appropriate salary level for posts is determined by Hay job evaluation carried out by trained evaluators, and there is usually the opportunity to move up two annual increment points within each salary range.

Positions for direct care staff are usually offered on a part-time basis with a shift system. There are also opportunities for waking and sleeping night duties.

Care staff are paid at an hourly rate plus appropriate uplifts for certain qualifications and holiday/night work.

Salaries are paid monthly into your bank account.

Holidays

We offer at least 22 days holiday, rising to 27 (or more) days after five years service depending on salary grade, plus the normal public holidays.

Part-timers receive a pro-rata amount, including a proportion of public holidays.

Health

Mendip Housing strives to help employees to remain healthy and happy, and work/life balance is important to us. Staff are asked to complete a medical questionnaire on joining and we may seek a Doctor’s or Occupational Health Physician’s report prior to appointment, or if we need to support you in the event of health issues during your employment.

Company sick pay is available to all staff depending on length of service with a basic of one month full pay plus two months at half pay after four months service.

All employees receive free entry level access to BUPA Cashplan which gives cash against certain medical expenses. Staff can elect to upgrade their cover should they wish. Staff also have access to a 24-hour employee assistance programme.

Free eye test vouchers are issued to all staff who regularly use a computer and we will contribute to the cost of spectacles required specifically for computer use.

Childcare

Subject to one year’s qualifying service Mendip Housing will contribute to the cost of pre-school nursery provision or registered childminding.

Pension

Staff have the opportunity to join a stakeholder pension plan provided by Friends Provident to which both the employee and the company will contribute.

Vehicle

You will be reimbursed for any mileage you undertake on behalf of the company using your own vehicle at agreed and published rates. These are reviewed annually. If a post attracts a 10% car allowance you will receive a mileage rate in addition for any business use.

Probationary Period

All posts are offered subject to satisfactory completion of six months probationary service.

Period of Notice

The notice you or the company need to give is set out in the statement of terms given to all staff.

Smoking

We operate a no smoking policy in all of our work locations and company vehicles.

Social

Colleagues at Mendip Housing enjoy each other’s company at a range of social events including a very successful Christmas Dinner/disco, sponsored fund-raising activities and sports events.

Personal development reviews

As part of our culture of high performance and continuous improvement we have a system of annual Personal Development Reviews which are centred around the employee and their needs for growth and development, as much as the business needs of Mendip Housing.

A thorough discussion around how you view your achievements and your contribution to your team and to Mendip Housing will be followed by looking at how this has impacted on our performance and what additional training or development is necessary to help you to be even more successful and fulfilled. This could be anything from basic skills training to a degree level course if appropriate. Key to this is an expectation that staff will act in the spirit of our policies and Staff Code of Conduct and aim to meet our established core competencies, and, in positions of leadership, our Management Standards.

Staff regularly tell us that they find this a motivating and constructive experience.
